The DeVaughn Family Christmas

Christmas time at my house was always a big time of the year. My parents Rocky and Pavati always went all out with decorating the house.

There was even a whole room dedicated to Christmas that my mother would do up. I tree went in there and that is where we would spend all of Christmas morning.

I remember my twin sister, Bevin and I would sit in front of the tree and play with our new toys all morning long. Mom and dad would look so peaceful why they sat and watched us.

Now that I am grown things have been different. Christmas is still a big time of year but I have missed a few of them. I was deployed out of the country and haven't seen my family for a few years now. My wife, Daisy came to see me for a week about nine months ago. It has really hard to be away this time because she became pregnant during her visit. This will be our first child together and I have missed almost her whole pregnancy.

Last week I received the best news in the world. I am going home! I decided not to tell my family so that I can surprise them on Christmas eve. It will feel really strange being back in the states but I can't wait. Good bye base and hello family.

When I walked in everyone was shocked into silence, no one had a clue I was coming home. Then all the welcome homes started and everyone got their turn to hug and chat with me. My mom was the first up and she squeezed me so tight it was hard to breath. My dad saluted me, him being in the military as well, he was proud that I served overseas.

Then hugs from my sis, man she is a beautiful woman and she has gotten married to a doctor. She is doing well for herself. I didn't get to meet her husband because he was working a double at the hospital but he would be by later.

Then finally I got to my love. We hugged, kissed, and just stared into each others eyes. I of course felt her tummy and asked how she was feeling. She has been doing great I know but her due date is in a week and thankfully I will be here for the birth of our first child.

After the hellos were over I showered and changed. I could smell the awesome food my mother was cooking. She could always be found in the kitchen and this year my sister was holed up in there right along with her. Daisey wanted to help but they told her to relax and spend some time with me.

We sat down to eat our meal and I have to say it was the best dinner I have had in years. Man oh man how I have missed my family.

That night I had the best dreams and slept sound all night long. Daisy woke me up at 6:30am saying the baby was coming. I panicked and she gave me the funniest look, like she didn't understand why I was panicked. So we hopped in a cab and headed to the hospital.

Hours later our son was born, we named him Brent Jr. When we got home everyone was overjoyed at the new addition to the family. What a great Christmas present!

I don't imagine that life gets much better than this. I spent the day loving on both my wife and my son. My mom had made a special Christmas blanket for Brent Jr. and we wrapped him in it right away. This is by far the best Christmas I have ever had.

A year has gone by now and it is Brent Jr's birthday. He has been such a blessing to this family and I love being a dad. I have not been deployed out of the states again and I get to come home very night to my family now. We are the happiest we have ever been and look forward to many more years of happiness together.
